Worship of God and his son Jesus is at the center of our 10:45 AM Sunday morning gathering. We do that through singing together, praying, sharing communion, and listening to God's word taught and preached. No one is required or put on the spot to do anything, but all are invited to take part to the level of their comfort. Here's what happens during worship time.
We Sing
With instrument and voices as we desire and are able we praise God together and encourage one another to honor God with our lives (Psalms 150; Colossians 3:16). Most of our music would be classified as contemporary praise, but occasionally you'll hear hymns accompanied by just organ or piano and every now and then even a southern gospel song or two complete with a banjo! We are usually led by a team of three singers who are backed by what could be called a "one woman band". Our keyboard player coaxes her high tech instrument to play everything from bass guitar to trumpets!
We Pray
Several times throughout the service a leader express requests and gratitude to God as the rest of us silently join in. We thank God for his goodness and pray for each other, our community, and our world (Philemon 4:6-7; 2 Timothy 2:1-4)
We Share Communion
After being led in a thought from Scripture about Jesus and his sacrificial death, we remember what he's done by eating small bits of bread which represent the body of Christ and drinking small cups of grape juice which represents the blood he shed for the forgiveness of our sins (Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26). All baptized believers are invited to eat and drink from each tray as they are passed. If you prefer not to participate, you may pass the trays on to the next person.
Kids Exit For Jr Worship Class
Parents are briefly dismissed to check their children in to the nursery or classes for up to 3rd grade. All children may stay in the service, but younger ones usually learn more and have a lot more fun in their own classes. Babies and toddlers have a special class every Sunday during this time. K-3rd have their own class on each Sunday at this time except the first Sunday of the month. On the first Sunday of the month, they meet with the adults to learn about worshiping the way adults do.
We Hear God's Word
After the children dismissal, the adults relax a bit and listen to a relevant-to-life message from God's Word. We are challenged and encouraged as a preacher speaks (2 Timothy 3:16 - 4:2). Normally the speaker is one of our elders. Occasionally, we have guest speakers from other places.
